Our Sustainability strategy
As the leading Self-Storage operator in Spain, we strive and undertake to create long-term added value by adopting a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly approach which benefits our customers, employees, suppliers and investors.
We have pledged to increase value for shareholders and customers alike, provide stable employment and build favourable long-term relationships with our suppliers and communities. Sustainability is at the very heart of who we are and what we do. It affects all the company’s commercial decisions including those related to property purchases, construction projects, relations with investors, corporate culture and management of our centres.
Use of energy-efficient LED lighting
LED lighting enables us to reduce our energy consumption by as much as 50.8%. We also steer clear of pollutants such as mercury and other heavy metals with a view to reducing light pollution and CO2 emissions.
Installation of solar panels on the roofs of our centres to generate electricity.
The photovoltaic infrastructure of every store, consisting of approximately 200 modules, accounts for 30% of annual energy consumption, which enables us to save a total of 100,000 kWh annually.
Electric vehicle charging points
Moreover, since 2019, we have added a number of electric vehicle charging points to our car parks. This measure is beneficial on two fronts: firstly, it directly reduces fossil fuel consumption and local environmental pollution; and secondly, it indirectly curtails petroleum refining and production activities.
We prioritise the use of eco-friendly materials and avoid the use of plastics and non-recyclable materials.
We favour the use of concrete in our construction activities as it is a long-lasting material which provides thermal inertia and increases energy efficiency
We recover the concrete paving of the floors of our buildings. In view of its long useful life (between 30-40 years), the environmental balance of concrete is highly favourable, in stark contrast to other materials. Moreover, concrete paving hardly requires any maintenance or repair work, which allows us to make long-term raw material, transport and energy savings.
We recycle project work waste Concrete is 100% recyclable and a great deal of the demolished pavings from our centres is sent to crushing plants. This waste is recycled as aggregate for foundations and solid sub-base layers, for lean or roller-compacted concrete.
We are constantly on the look-out for ways to continue reducing the environmental impact of our buildings, which is why we are working on the following future projects:
BREEAM certification
BREEAM is the world’s longest established method of assessing, rating, and certifying the sustainability of buildings. Its categories assess the use of energy and water, health and well-being, pollution, transport, materials, waste, ecology and management processes. Buildings are rated and certified according to a scale of “Pass”, “Good”, “Very Good”, “Excellent” and “Outstanding”.
Collecting rain water to irrigate green spaces
We are studying the possibility of collecting rain water in a 10,000-litre tank with a view to irrigating surrounding green spaces.
We recycle more than 142 tons of waste every year: 34 tons of cardboard produced by our operations and 108 tons of other municipal waste.
At Bluespace, we also take steps to ensure that our packaging materials meet the most stringent ecological standards.
Did you know that our Smart Blue boxes can be self-assembled and reused?
We sell more than 15,000 multi-use boxes every year. This means we are helping to recycle a further 18 tons of cardboard produced by our operations every year.
If you are a Bluespace customer, you can sign up for the Bluespace Recycling Service and we’ll manage and recycle your cardboard. Contact your Bluespace adviser for information about how to sign up and help us to protect the environment.
Service for electric cars
Now in our Bluespace centers we offer electric car charging service, just bring your cable and our team will be attentive to what you may need.
You can come and recharge your car during our office hours, remember to bring your cable.

WASTE REDUCTION
At Bluespace, we no longer use single-use plastic utensils such as (cups, teaspoons and other kitchen utensils)
DIGITAL FIRST
We are introducing the electronic contracting service to reduce printing activities and paper consumption at our centres; in turn, this initiative increases the effectiveness and flexibility of contracting processes.
EFFICIENT REFURBISHMENT
We are converting an old office into a modern self-storage centre which prioritises the use of ecological materials and avoids the use of plastics and non-recyclable materials.
